Let’s take a moment to talk about breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer in their lifetime (think of it this way: a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes). The only cancer more deadly among American women is lung cancer. So if you know more than 8 women, chances are at least one of them will be diagnosed. Scary thought, huh? So ladies (and men–this is not a woman-only disease) this is the month to get educated–it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, after all! Get to know your gals, make sure to check yo’ self every month and tell your doctor if you feel something strange or different. Practice prevention by recognizing some of the factors that could increase your risk of developing breast cancer. For instance, we all know too much red meat is bad for your health, but did you know that eating too much of the stuff can also increase your risk for breast cancer by 88 to 330 percent. Steak may be good, but not that good! To learn more about ways you can keep your body and your boobs in tit-top shape and to find out how you can help support breast cancer research, visit the Keep A Breast Foundation online and remember to love your boobies!
On a lighter note, Breast Cancer Awareness Month also means a month full of boob-related puns in the name of awareness. They’re the breast!
The official color of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is, of course, pink. So what better way to show your support for breast cancer research then by donning some awesome pink threads? You may even convince some men to go pink for October! Some of our favorite brands have pink things so you can show off your style and your support!
The CAT name is obviously just a shortened version of Caterpillar. But we think CAT should stand for Comfortable Awesome Things. Because that’s totally what they sell. So you’ll be super comfy while you’re staying warm in your CAT Apparel Women’s Button Hoodie or relaxing in your Women’s Caterpillar V-Neck Tee. And it’s never too early to teach your baby boy that there’s nothing more manly than wearing pink (random fact: Pink used to be considered a color boys) than by dressing him in the super-cute and tough Make Some Noise Set.
Speaking of tough, it’s time we showed the boys that we’re capable of handling the toughest jobs. And we can do it in style with Moxie Trades! Put on your pink hard hat, buckle up your pink tool belt, and show the men that you can do the breast job (sorry, couldn’t help myself)!
Women aren’t the only ones affected by breast cancer, and women aren’t the only ones who can wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Tell the men in your life to go pink with you! Get him the Hanes Unisex Beefy-T Born to be Worn Shirt! It’s unisex so you can rock the same tee. This color is called Wow Pink, which probably is short for Wow, That’s Pink! For the dressier type, there’s the Ariat Men’s Solid Twill Shirt. It’ll look great paired with a tie covered in pink ribbons!
The fight against breast cancer would be even harder without the hardworking nurses that lift our spirits and help us stay healthy. And we won’t be surprised if we see them decked out this month (and every month after it) in pink ribbons. The Sanita Professional Liv Clogs in Pink Zebra features a fun zebra print design and a pink ribbon to show your support for breast cancer research. And the stylish Dickies Women’s Junior Fit pink ribbon scrub tops and botttoms come in either a lively pink color or a more subtle black. You can go all one color, or mix and match for a little variety.
Even though this is Breast Cancer Awareness month, we need to remember the doctors and scientists working hard to fight cancer and find a cure everyday. If you want to support research and raise awareness for all types of cancers, check out these multi-cancer awareness goodies from Cherokee, including a jelly watch, retractable ID clip, tote bag, and lanyard.
